Broadbeach shopping and dining

BROADBEACH: SHOPPING/DINING:  Oasis - Oracle Blvd – Robina – Pacific Fair – Harbour town – Marina Mirage

The Gold Coast is famous for its climate – sunshine most of the year. Even in winter the days can be 22 degrees and the ocean temperature in Broadbeach even in winter is usually 19 – 22 degrees. On about 18 May 2012 it was 23 degrees. Compare this to Malibu and Venice beaches in LA (Santa Monica) – grey sand, very cold most of the year because of a cold gulf stream.  Today 29 May 2012 this is their situation: water temperature 55-57 F degrees – i.e. 14-15 degrees centigrade! (Freeze your a.... off.) Air temperature about 17 Cent – not too bad. Air temp today in Broadbeach is 23 degrees. Take that!

But if the weather is not good, you don’t want to be stuck in your Broadbeach apartment, no, there’s lots of shopping out there! Husbands, and men generally, beware: once your wife/partner finds out about all the great shopping, your credit cards will by crying for months. So, pray for good weather!

The Oracle Blvd

Now the in place  for fining dining and shopping at the newest and most elegant address in Broadbeach – bit like Sloan Street, in London. It is situated between the stunning new Oracle Broadbeach Towers.  Under the Oracle commercial precinct (in the Oracle retail area), are three very popular venues: Max Brenner (warning: addictive chocolate); Bavarian Bar and Restaurant (all the famous German beers and dishes), Mecca Bah (also a well-known brand, for middle Eastern cuisine), and opposite Mecca Bah is Moo Moo, the best known steak house in the Gold Coast (located under Broadbeach on the Park, which is opposite the Oracle). One of our favourites is Koi, under the Wave Broadbeach.

In our opinion, the best shopping is at the new Robina Town Centre, some 15 minutes from your Broadbeach accommodation. It is elegant, and must be one of the most modern complexes in the Southern Hemisphere. It is huge, so you need a few hours to see what is available. Pacific Fair in Broadbeach is much smaller, but is also very good and is only a short walk from our Broadbeach apartments.

Oasis Shopping Centre

This is  also a substantial shopping centre, very handy as it is in the heart of Broadbeach, with speciality shops, liquor stores and an excellent Woolworths, and many restaurants.

On the south side of Oasis is the Oracle Development. Also very good is Niecon Plaza opposite Oasis which has a popular food court, and is surrounded by restaurants and coffee shops. In front of Niecon Plaza is Broadbeach Mall, crowded with restaurants. The Wave is just around the corner from this Mall. All very handy for holidaymakers.  Further details and photos are below.

Located in the heart of Broadbeach, Niecon Plaza  and Oasis Shopping Centre connect the famous dining hotspots of Surf Parade and Albert Avenue with cosmopolitan Broadbeach Mall.
Located in Broadbeach, the Centre has direct access to patrolled beaches and award winning restaurants and cafes. The Oasis features over 100 specialty stores and services. It is highlighted in the circled area – to the LH side (South) you can see the two towers of the Oracle. On the RH side is Air on Broadbeach.

An icon on the Gold Coast is The Oasis Monorail which runs from 9am daily. It does return runs every 10 minutes from the shopping centre to Jupiters Casino. With two stations on level 2 of The Oasis and a station at Jupiters Casino, you can experience the sites of Broadbeach from above. Kids love this monorail, since it runs through the middle of the shopping centre.

Pacific Fair – Broadbeach

Pacific Fair is one of the Gold Coast's largest shopping centres, with more than 300 stores including retail giants Myer, Kmart, Target and Coles, as well as a huge variety of cafes and eateries.

The Birch, Carroll and Coyle 12 Cinema Senstadium screens the latest release movies in air-conditioned comfort.

There is also a very good food mall on level two. It is an easy 10-15 stroll from the centre of Broadbeach to Pacific Fair. Also enjoyable is to take the monorail from Oasis to Jupiters Casino, get off at that station, then walk cross the road to Pacific Fair. There are also good restaurants in Jupiters.

Robina Town Centre

Conveniently located adjacent to the M1 Motorway, Robina Town Centre has recently undergone a $400 million expansion. The centre now features the Gold Coast’s only David Jones department store as well as Myer, Target, Kmart, Coles, two Woolworths supermarkets and over 350 specialty stores. All the famous brands are here – bring lots of money or fully charged credit cards. Remember: if you are not in, then you are out!

Robina restaurants on the lake!

We quote from the Robina website: Following a multi-million dollar makeover, Robina Town Centre offers a fantastic new shopping and dining experience.  To complete the experience you can catch a latest release movie at the state-of-the-art Event Cinemas, or dine in the 900-seat Food Atrium or at one of the many cafes or lakeside restaurants. The above photo shows the lakeside restaurants. The setting is fantastic – nothing like this in Melbourne or Sydney!

Marina Mirage – extracts from their website. It is all true.

Marina Mirage is one of the most exclusive shopping precincts on the Gold Coast. You can't miss this breathtaking building in Main Beach, overlooking the stunning Broadwater. This premier shopping destination is home to top-end fashion designers Carla Zampatti, Calvin Klein, Charlie Brown and Grant Mimco. Along the waterfront, there are a variety of restaurants and cafes, with every taste and desire catered for.

Harbour Town is promoted as the Gold Coast's ultimate shopping destination. It claims to have brought direct factory savings from favourite brands and conveniently placed them all under one roof in Biggera Waters. It has over 120 outlet stores including names like Oroton, Nike, a David Jones Warehouse and a 14 screen cinema complex.

We have visited it a few times and it is indeed a colourful and vibrant shopping destination with over 120 outlet stores selling quality brand fashions and home wares direct on sale every day. It is very popular with overseas tourists who get bussed there in large numbers, so the shopping must be good.

Harbour Town is located just 15 minutes north of Surfers Paradise.
